01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Kyochabana Kitashinchi’s signature tomato okonomiyaki keeps the familiar character of the classic dish, but makes a different impression from the first bite. Diners have commented that the tomato’s sweetness and acidity work well with the batter, making the dish feel less heavy and easy to enjoy to the last bite. Options include tomato okonomiyaki with pork and mozzarella, as well as versions with beef tendon and konjac or seafood. Choose tomato, avocado, or a more traditional pork or beef-tendon-and-konjac okonomiyaki; the range of fillings makes it possible to compare inventive styles with Kansai-style favourites.

The yakisoba also has a twist. The tomato version is made with pasta, while the signature avocado black yakisoba uses Japanese soba noodles. For a change from the familiar sauce yakisoba, either makes an interesting pairing with okonomiyaki. To share a few smaller dishes, consider edamame grilled with browned-butter soy sauce or lotus root grilled with cheese. Tomato okonomiyaki alongside these teppanyaki plates can suit a meal or a drinks gathering.
